DISASTER RESPONSE AND RECOVERY:
Our purpose is to meet the immediate and long-term disaster-caused needs of individuals, families, and communities.
-- Our most prevalent response is to Single Family and Multi-Family Home Fires. During these responses, we provide emergency financial assistance and local referrals to help get people back on their feet.
-- For larger events, we work with governments and partners to give people a safe place to go, a hot meal, supplies to help clean up, and emergency financial assistance.
-- Our assistance does not stop there, we continue to support affected communities by distributing additional financial assistance to households in need of extra help in the long-term and grants to address community-based recovery services.

COMMUNITY PREPAREDNESS PROGRAMS:
-- Free emergency preparedness training to youth (K - 5th grade) through our Prepare with Pedro and Pillowcase Project programs.
-- Free emergency preparedness presentations to organizations, businesses, and groups through our ReadyRating, Be Red Cross Ready, and Hands-Only CPR programs.
-- Free Smoke Alarm installation and tests for existing alarms to anyone in need, and we provide free basic information on home fire safety.

SERVICE TO ARMED FORCES:
-- The Red Cross helps members of the military, veterans and their families prepare for, cope with, and respond to, the challenges of military service.
-- The Red Cross volunteers provide home comforts and critical services on bases and in military hospitals around the world; Support military families during deployments and emergencies, continuing to serve our nation’s veterans after their service ends.
-- Every day, the American Red Cross provides 24/7 global emergency communication services and support in military and veteran health care facilities across the country and around the world.

Since its founding in 1881 by visionary leader Clara Barton, the American Red Cross has been the nation's premier emergency response organization. We bring shelter, food and comfort to those affected by disasters, large and small. We collect lifesaving donated blood and supply it to patients in need. We provide support to our men and women in military bases around the world, and to the families they leave behind. We train communities in CPR, first aid and other skills that save lives. And we assist our neighbors abroad with critical disaster response, preparedness and disease prevention efforts. We are able to do all this by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
